Airport
Arrival at Suvarnabhumi airport and navigating immigration, baggage claim, and customs will take over an hour. The walk from your arrival gate to the immigration counter is lengthy, so use the moving sidewalks.
After being cleared by the immigration officer, consider changing some money at the currency exchanges before going to your luggage carousel. Slightly better rates (8% better) are available at many currency exchanges downtown, but you’ll need some money right away. You might also consider purchasing a SIM card for your phone at the airport because Wi-Fi will not be available on campus.
The airport is 30 km east of the city. The best ways to get to downtown are public taxi (floor 1), limousine (floor 2), or airport rail link (basement).
You should expect a taxi to cost around 400–500 baht. Limousines are obviously going to be substantially more expensive.
The airport rail link is the least expensive option at 45 baht, although it operates only from 06:00 to 24:00. So, if your flight arrives late at night, this might not be an option. Departures are every 10–15 minutes and the Express train takes 26 minutes and terminates at the Phaya Thai skytrain station in downtown Bangkok. From there, you can connect to the skytrain or get a taxi to your hotel.
