Collecting trip
Register for the Friday (January 9, 2026) collecting trip ($30 USD)
The Friday collecting trip will leave the auditorium at Kasetsart University at 7:30.
In addition to your collecting gear, bring water and your lunch. We will take vans 3.5 hours west to Suan Phueng in Ratchaburi Province. It takes that long to get away from populated areas to anything resembling natural habitat. This site has a shallow stream (Phashi River) for aquatic collectors and riparian and other vegetation for terrestrial collectors. Be careful of snakes. Consider wearing shoes that can get wet so you can access vegetation on both sides of the river. The river is ankle-deep in places. In addition to the photo above, you can see more photos of the Phashi River on my locality image database. We will collect for several hours and then drive back. The vans will return us to campus or to the Asia Hotel at the Ratchethewi skytrain station.
Although collecting at this site does not require a permit, taking specimens out of the country does.
