With great regret we share with you the information that the American lygaeoid specialist, Professor Merrill Henry Sweet, passed away August 19, 2023.

Dr. Sweet, who would have turned 89 on September 5, 2024, spent his career teaching and conducting research at Texas A & M University in College Station, Texas, before retiring and becoming a long-time research associate and collaborator at New Mexico States University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He is well known for his detailed observations on the ecology and feedings habits of the North American Lygaeoidea, among many other important papers on the classification and systematics of Heteroptera.
