Getting around

Metered taxis are generally reliable; however, be sure the driver uses the meter rather than charge you a flat, elevated fee. Tuk-tuk drivers are notoriously unscrupulous and scam tourists regularly.

Motorcycle taxis are just too dangerous, except on the Kasetsart University campus.

Uber is here, but Grab is similar and more prevalent and reliable. Download the Grab app and use it as you would Uber.

SKYTRAIN is by far the preferred way to navigate Bangkok.

SKYTRAIN

The BTS skytrain system comprises many lines of elevated electric trains; the most important for us is the Sukhomvit line (light-green) because it has a station at Kasetsart University. You can buy individual one-ride tickets from vending machines at each station, but we recommend purchasing a Rabbit card for 200 baht, onto which you can load as much money as you wish for convenient tap-in and tap-out rides. I just “top-up” my card at any station when my ride value gets low.

Important: Rabbit cards are available for purchase at the ticket window at any station and be advised that you must SHOW YOUR PASSPORT for the initial purchase. After that, just tap-in and tap-out. So easy and no traffic.
